Charcoal X [2017]
for double-bell trumpet, spotlights, bowls of water, CD, candle

Charcoal X evolved from the idea of the double-bell trumpet, as a physical object as much as an instrument, being a medium for a sonic or visual investigation. The three movements of Charcoal X engage the instrument physically with visual or light elements, progressing through different visual scenes. To heighten the interplay between threads of sound, vision, and technique, a timed tape of pre-recorded sounds mimics and extends the live instrumental techniques of the work.
